Steampunked on the inside doll
Taking old pieces of technology and turning them into art is a nifty idea, and the older the pieces the more worthy they become within the steampunk world. It is not easy to mix match items and have them actually look like something recognizable. Although I have seen many steampunked items, this doll named Charlotte has caught my eye, not because she is steampunked on the outside (she’s not) but instead, she is on the inside. Charlotte, circa 1886 is a broken doll that is custom made and stands only 9” tall. She is made up of acrylic, wood, clay, vinyl and fabric on the outside, on the inside she is made of various inner workings of gadgets and watches, basically her organs are steampunked. This clever idea made me instantly fall in love with this doll and have enjoyed other steampunked items from the 10th Gallery on Storenvy, but Charlotte happens to be my favorite. Here is her story, another imaginative piece to conclude the steampunked on the inside doll.
“Charlotte was a strange metal creature found in our parallel world expedition of 1886. Little was discovered of her origins other than she wasn’t ever human and always appeared sad. Her ability to talk and comprehend matched and even bested the expedition’s scholars. During her stay with the team she often helped with experiments as her memory of their reference material was unmatched. Many times our scientists would not record any data, instead letting Charlotte memorize their dictations. Her face plate was already damaged when they first met her, a subject she very much avoided. During the return of our explorers she felt her world had little more for her to learn and walked into the boundary between worlds. When she arrived on our side she uttered “at last” just as the portal closed. At that moment every piece of technology, brought back ceased to function including her. She finally looked happy.”
