Canonical drops Ubuntu touch support for Nexus devices

Androidcentral

January 14, 2014

Canonical is dropping Ubuntu touch support for a wave of Nexus phones and tablets, including the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10. Nexus 5 support is also on hold for the time being. Engineers confirmed the unfortunate news in a phone mail list, stating that the company was focusing all efforts on the newer Nexus devices.

The poor Galaxy Nexus just can’t catch a break. It, along with the Nexus 10 and the 2012 version of the Nexus 7 have been dropped from Ubuntu Touch support by Canonical. Also, support for the Nexus 5 is on hold. Of course, the question everyone has is why. Alexander Sack explains on the Ubuntu-phone team mailing list. The folks behind the project want, and need, to narrow their focus as we get closer to the 14.04 release, which has always been planned to unify the desktop and mobile under the same code base.
