The launch of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge is looking to be Samsung’s biggest smartphone launch to date. According to a Taiwanese research firm, Samsung will sell somewhere around 55 million units of its flagship smartphone this year, quite a bit more than similar estimates from DRAMeXchange. This is due in large part to the much more premium design that these new smartphone have compared to their predecessors.

All signs are pointing to a very rosy forecast for Samsung’s new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge smartphones. The latest estimate comes from a Taiwan-based research firm, which expects Samsung to ship a total of 55 million units of its Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in 2015. That 55 million mark is a 20 percent bump from the original expectations set by DRAMeXchange, a division of market intelligence firm TrendForce. In the first quarter of 2015, Samsung is expected to ship 4.4 million units of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge phones. In the second quarter, the South Korean technology giant will peak with 22.2 million units shipped, 5 million more units than DRAMeXchange originally estimated. Samsung is expected to ship an additional 16.2 million units of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in the third quarter of the year. In the fourth quarter, the company is expected to ship another 12.5 million units of its new flagship phones.
