A former Skype executive has been named the new CEO of GoPro

GoPro, the maker of popular action cameras, announced on Wednesday that it has named Tony Bates as its president. Bates is the former president of Skype and executive vice president at Microsoft; he will report directly to GoPro CEO and founder Nicholas Woodman in addition to serving on the company’s board of directors. GoPro also announced that it has appointed Peter Gotcher to its board of directors and its audit committee. Gotcher is also the chairman of Dolby Laboratories and also sits on the board of digital streaming service Pandora.

GoPro, maker of one of the world’s most versatile cameras and enabler of some of today’s most engaging content, today announced that Tony Bates and Peter Gotcher have been appointed to GoPro’s Board of Directors, effective immediately. Mr. Gotcher has been appointed to GoPro’s Audit Committee. Mr. Bates has also been named President of GoPro, reporting directly to GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman. “I’m fired up to have two seasoned technology veterans like Tony and Peter join our team. Their passion and experience will help us realize our vision for enabling people to self-capture and share engaging personal content,” said Nicholas Woodman. “As President of GoPro, Tony will focus on our core business as well as scaling GoPro’s fast-growing media operations.”
