Android still reigns supreme, even in the United States

Android is the leading operating system in pretty much every country by a large margin, but in the United States, the difference between Android and iOS is much smaller. Even so, Android still remains king even in the United States, with its market share rising to 53.2% in January from 52.3% in October. iOS, on the other hand, fell from 41.9% to 41.3% while Windows Phone had a negligible increase. 

The latest data from research firm comScore shows that the Android platform claimed 53.2% of all smartphones used in the US in January 2015. In fact, Android’s share went up from 52.3% compared to October 2014, according to comScore’s stats. iOS, the number two smartphone platform, saw its US market share fall from 41.9% to 41.3% in the same time frame. Windows Phone is third, going up slightly from 3.5% in October to 3.6% in January. BlackBerry is fourth and saw its share drop from 2.1% to 1.8%. Symbian is fifth, remaining the same at just 0.1% The leading smartphone OEM in the US continues to be Apple, claiming 41.3% of the industry’s market share in January. Samsung is second with 29.3%. LG is third with 8% percent, followed by Motorola at 5.2% and HTC at 3.8%.
