Despite the fact that all of Apple’s mobile devices are powered by ARM-based chipsets, its Macs are powered by Intel processors, but that could all change within the next couple of years. A new report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the company will power all of its products with ARM-based chipsets either next year or the following year.
At the moment, Apple’s Macs are powered by Intel processors, while their mobile devices – the majority of mobile devices actually – are powered by ARM-based chipsets. Now there has been some speculation going as far back as 2012 that Apple could eventually ditch Intel for ARM-based chipsets to power their Macs, and now a new report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is echoing those predictions. In Kuo’s latest report, he suggests that Apple could be poised to release an ARM-based Mac in the next year or two. As expected these chipsets are said to be of a custom design, much like how Apple’s A-series of chipsets used in their iOS devices are a custom design that is based on ARM’s technology. However Kuo notes that this is dependent on how well these chipsets perform.
