Are pictures taking over the web?

Are pictures taking over the web

Have you noticed the increase of pictures on Social Networks as of late? Google+ users have pretty much been doing this since the social network was still closed to the public. However, Facebook users have taken the picture sharing up a notch since that is what many people seem to be sharing these days.

I am not complaining, in fact I personally part-take in posting pictures since learning that pictures that are directly uploaded to the site are preferred by the Facebook algorithm, more so than links. In fact this states true for anything that is organically added to the site like a status update or video. However, more and more it seems like people are catching on that a visual enhancement acting as a side kick to your text is more appealing to the viewer within the newsfeed and therefore more people are sharing photos unlike ever before.

Perhaps this has to do with the instant rise of the popular photo-sharing social site, Instagram or maybe it is in coherence with the crazed photo pinning social site, Pinterest. Both sites offer abilities to upload photos that are ones that you have taken or others that have been found on the web. Either way, they may be influencing what we are sharing on other social networks.

Have you noticed an increase in photo sharing on Facebook or Google+, more so than last year? I most certainly have and I like it, as the adage goes “a picture says 1000 words” and sometimes we need something that can speak volumes and visually please our connections.
