Tens of millions of people are taking up videogames on smartphones and tablets, but don’t cry for console and PC gaming just yet.

Nick Wingfield at the New York Times takes measure of the videogame industry, particularly the blockbusters that dominate the space. The development budgets are on par with films in some cases. There are fewer big games being made than in the past, so those that are left are getting bigger.
