Indian startup NewsHunt raises $40 million to mature and evolve

NewsHunt, an Indian news aggregation service for mobile devices, has managed to secure more than $40 million in funding to help it achieve its goal of becoming a mature digital content platform. The service is geared mainly towards Indian users offers more than 100 publications in 12 different languages. 

India-based mobile news aggregation service NewsHunt has raised $40 million to continue its evolution into a digital content platform. Founder Virendra Gupta told TechCrunch in an interview that the new round is actually a combination of the startup’s Series A and Series B — both of which were pegged around $20 million. New York-based hedge fund Falcon Edge Capital led the round, with participation from existing investors Matrix Partners, Sequoia Capital and Omidyar Network. Bangalore-based NewsHunt raised $18 million back in October 2014, so it’s had a busy recent period.
