Kinect armchair takes laziness to its logical conclusion

Quite possibly the coolest Kinect hack yet has come from Microsoft itself – in the form of this Kinect-powered motorized armchair, built using the soon-to-be-released Kinect PC SDK. With a flick of the wrist, the chair reclines, adjusts, and even becomes mobile, all while you laze about. If this blatant incarnation of slothdom isn’t the reason technology made it to this point, nothing is.

Alright, so the operation of this thing is still a little cumbersome, and really doesn’t look all that usable, let alone pleasant. But think of the future! A future in which we all hover around in little chairs like Modok. That’s a future worth living for. That’s a future worth waiting for.

Thanks Freewave, I was Google~n for the name of the movie– haha. Yep this is our future. Diabetes at 5, age of average death dropping to 30. It’s awesome what a lazy consumerist world we have become 😐 I’ll just leave my unmodded kinect for my kids to bowl and long jump.

Nickelodeon had something like this in the 90s on a show called “Roundhouse” (don’t look at me like that, you all know what I’m talking about), only it wasn’t controlled this way. I love how this motion sensor technology is still in the “So…what can we do with this?” phase, it means lots more cool stories like this that ultimately have no impact on the world or society right now, but have great potential to change things down the road once we get things worked out.
