Mobile advertising on the rise

Advertising has come a long way, especially in the mobile age. Back in the day, billboards and newspaper ads had to suffice to get the word out, but now everyone is walking around with the perfect advertising medium right in their pockets.

It all began in 1973 when Motorola invented the first “portable” handset. Though it was big, chunky, and had no screen to speak of, this piece of technology was the first step to the final frontier of advertising.

Decades later, after the first mobile advertising conference and Google launched AdWords, Apple introduced the iPhone. Opening up a whole new way we thought of mobile technology, the iPhone revolutionized the way we live and the way we see ads.

Today, mobile advertising spending reached $8 to $10 billion dollars. From in-app ads, to sponsored Tweets, to Facebook, we are constantly surrounded by ads. They are specifically geared towards the user, based on preference. Tablets are propelling mobile ad spending and creating a whole new interface for users. There is more room for creativity and twists on traditional ad types.
