#OpFacebook – Can Anonymous really take down Facebook on November 5th?

They have taken down websites representing banks, religions, and governments. Now, if a recent video is authentic, Anonymous has its sights set on the most powerful social network in the world: Facebook.
Here is a partial transcript of the video:
Attention Citizens of the World,
We are Anonymous. We wish to get your attention hoping you heed the warnings as follows. Your medium of communication you all so dearly adore will be destroyed. If you’re a willing activist or a guy who just wants to protect the freedom of information then join the cause and kill Facebook for the sake of your own privacy. Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so they can spy on people from all around the world.
Sounds pretty ominous, but can they really take the site down? Some have speculated that Facebook’s platform is vulnerable to attacks because of its use of MySQL, making it possible to use bulk to put strain on servers. Others point to flaws in the security protocols, though most agree that Facebook is more secure than most social networks because of its popularity on mobile devices.

The date set for November 5th, 2011, is Guy Fawkes Night and brought into the spotlight most recently in the movie V for Vendetta.
Here’s the video. What will your status be on November 5, 2011?

A group trying to protect the privacy of citizens from social networking/media sites (specifically facebook) is using one (namely twitter) to spread the message? Ironic? Or just total hypocrisy with an agenda different from the mission statement?
Its not social networking they have an issue with my friend. It is the fact that Facebook sold information of its users to third parties without consent of the end users. “Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving
clandestine access to information security firms so they can spy on
people from all around the world.”
This will be epic if they do. To some it will a good epic, and others a bad epic. We’ll see if they can actually do it though.
