Pebble is pledging $1 million to help fund smartstrap projects

Kickstarter

Two Takes Default
Two Takes Default

Pebble has been one of the most successful companies in the smartwatch industry despite the fact that it doesn’t use Android Wear. The company, which acquires the majority of its funding through Kickstarter, managed to raise record-breaking amounts of money for the successor to its first smartwatch and has pledged $1 million of its own to projects for developing smartstraps for Pebble devices that add extra functionality to the devices.

Earlier this month we published an update about smartstraps for Pebble, our open hardware accessory platform. Since then, hundreds of developers, hackers and established brands have approached Pebble to take part. Today we are pledging 1 million US dollars to encourage the development and commercialization of smartstrap projects for Pebble devices. If you have an idea and want to be part of the smartstrap revolution, this is your chance! Get a team together, build a prototype and put your project up on a crowdfunding platform. Our team will work to help bring your idea to life. We will monitor Kickstarter and other crowdfunding platforms for smartstrap related projects that support Pebble devices, and we’ll back the best of them. We truly understand the value of backing projects in their early state, having started that way ourselves. From there, we expect many projects to evolve into products fit for wider release. To make sure we see your project you can tweet your projects to @Pebble or get in touch with our developer experience team by emailing devsupport@getpebble.com.
