Porsche’s 911 GT3 R is a Very ‘Likable’ Hybrid

Porsche is very appreciative of its 1 million+ Facebook fans. To honor these enthusiastic Porsche lovers, the automaker recently created a special edition of its 911 GT3 R Hybrid complete with signatures of more than 27,000 Porsche fans.

This week marks one of the rare instances when this vehicle will be on display outside of Germany. The Facebook 911 GT3 R Hybrid can be seen at the 2011 New York Auto Show, which opens to the public today. For those attendees that happen to be Facebook fans of the German automaker, don’t pass up the opportunity to see your name printed on this ultra rare vehicle.

Powering the 911 GT3 R Hybrid is a 480 horsepower 4.0-liter six-cylinder flat-twin engine complimented by an electric front axle drive with two electric drive motors each pumping out 60 kW. In lieu of batteries, this hybrid uses an electric flywheel accumulator to power the electric motors. This advanced technology isn’t just for show either — it has already proven its race-worthiness in last year’s 24 Hours of Nürburgring.

If you aren’t fortunate enough to make it to this year’s New York Auto Show, you can still get an up-close look at the signatures. Simply check out Porsche’s promotional website, which gives you the chance to find where your own name is printed. After the show, the car will go back on display at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

  1. Porsche is capitalizing on its Facebook following well. Leveraging them with all those signatures is a goood move. Between that and the Facebook stuff, it keeps fans involved and makes them feel like they matter. That’s good engagement.

  2. I believe the GT3 R uses the flywheel system from Williams Hybrid Systems (Williams F1 Team) – The system was originally developed to run on Williams’ F1 Cars in 2009
