People were amazed when Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 3 would have 3GB of RAM, but that was only the beginning. Now the South Korean company is reportedly working on a chip that could arm smartphones with 4GB of RAM.

Samsung Electronics, the division of Samsung that focuses on building components for its mobile unit and many other manufacturers, has announced the new 8Gb mobile DRAM that will lead to faster and more efficient phones when they find their way into devices next year. Samsung claims this is the first eight gigabit low power double data rate 4 (LPDDR4) mobile DRAM that will have “the highest level of density, performance, and energy efficiency.”
