Twitter Gets Embed with Web as Digg Redesigns

Twitter has announced a new plan to become as pervasive as the Web itself, opening up its @anywhere tech which aims to integrate Twitter into the very fabric of the ‘Net.

@anywhere will let people using websites to follow new users or share media directly from the page. It is similar to Facebook Connect in that users will be able to log into websites using their Twitter ID.

“Imagine being able to follow a New York Times journalist directly from her byline, tweet about a video without leaving YouTube, and discover new Twitter accounts while visiting the Yahoo home page,” Twitter said on its blog.

“When we designed Twitter, we took a different approach—we didn’t require a relationship model like that of a social network. Keeping things open meant you could browse our site to read tweets from friends, celebrities, companies, media outlets, fictional characters, and more.

“As a result, companies started interacting with customers, celebrities connected with fans, governments became more transparent, and people started discovering and sharing information in a new, participatory manner,” Twitter also said.

Reacting to the increased flexibility of the social web, Digg this week unveiled an all-new design, and opened itself up to allowing users to Digg new content without requiring they be logged in in order to submit something fresh.
